What does the process of getting a dental crown entail?
The dental crown procedure usually requires patients to attend two appointments at our Peoria dentist office. During the first visit, a dentist will clean or extract any decay or old fillings that have compromised the tooth. We will then shape the outer surface of the affected tooth to ensure a proper fitting of the dental cap.
The next step is to make an impression of the teeth. We do this by an impression mold or through an advanced digital method using a laser scanner. Before a permanent dental crown is applied, a temporary crown will be implemented for about two weeks. After that period, the permanent dental crown may be applied. After this brief, final procedure, patients are given instructions to best care for their new dental crown.
CEREC / Same Day Crown / Single Visit
We also offer the option for a crown in one visit. This process is identical to the first visit described above with the traditional crowns, but rather than making a temporary crown, we make the final one. Using CAD/CAM technology, we are able to fabricate the final restoration in a little under an hour.
